Character Name: Relm Arrowny
Character Series: Final Fantasy VI
Character Age: 11

Background: Relm was born in the village of Thamasa, where she lived a fairly peaceful life. She was raised by her grandfather, Strago, from a very young age. She doesn't remember much about her parents; the only link she has to them is a ring from her departed mother. Unbeknown to her, while her mother was born and raised in Thamasa, her father was an outsider that had stumbled into the town one day, badly wounded and near death. Relm's mother had taken care of him, and the two had fallen in love. It wasn't long after that that the stranger, named Clyde, left the town, telling his dog to remain behind to watch over the woman and their child. The dog refused, however, and chose instead to leave with Clyde. Relm's mother passed away shortly after, and Strago took Relm under his wing. It isn't clear whether or not Strago is really Relm's grandfather, but that detail isn't important anymore, as their relationship is undoubtedly that of a doting grandfather and his spirited young granddaughter.

Thamasa was a very interesting place for a young girl to be growing up, considering that the town was filled with the remaining descendants of the Magi, the only humans known to have possessed magical ability. Even though Thamasa is a secluded and out-of-the-way little hamlet, the Elder decided to forbid the use of magic even in the village in order to protect the people and their secrets. Being naturally curious and somewhat mischievous, this didn't sit well with young Relm - or many of the other children.

The children were known to experiment with their abilities, and things like small fires, lightning strikes and frozen flowers were commonplace. Relm soon found that while her magical abilities were impressive, she also had another talent - anything she painted could, if she wished, come to life before her very eyes. She caused her poor grandfather many near heart attacks with this ability, much to her amusement.

One day, a small group of strangers arrived at Thamasa, much to everyone's amazement. No one ever visited their little hidden town, and they all liked it that way. Relm was far too curious to let this chance go by unnoticed, however, and when the travelers stopped by to see Strago, she disobeyed his order to stay in her room and came rushing down the stairs to meet them, chattering happily. Much to her delight, one of the travelers had a dog, and she took to him instantly, despite his size and claims of his ferocity. The dog, named Interceptor, also seemed quite taken by little Relm. When it was time for them to leave, the dog's master - a ninja named Shadow - had to order the dog to come along, and Relm sadly watched them go.

That night, Relm was playing at a friend's house, and the two of them were once again testing their magical abilities, despite being told countless times not to. The boy's powers got the best of him this time, however, and soon the house was ablaze with a fire that wouldn't be doused no matter how hard the villagers tried - even after calling on their magical abilities. Desperate to save his granddaughter, Strago ran to the inn and begged the travelers to help. Along with Strago, they rushed into the burning house and saved Relm and her friend, thanks in the end to Shadow dragging them all out of the house right before it collapsed.

The next day, Strago showed his gratitude to the travelers by telling them the legend of the village. They had come to Thamasa to find out information about Espers, magical beings that were supposed to be long dead, or at least forgotten. One of the travelers, a young woman named Terra, was actually half-Esper, and she had managed to call a group of Espers forth from where they had gone to hide many years before. They had gone berserk, however, and after torching the Imperial Capital had flown to a cave a little ways away from Thamasa. Strago volunteered to join them in finding the Espers, firmly telling Relm to stay behind. Relm had never been one to obey the orders of her elders, though, especially when something so exciting was happening! And so Strago set off with Terra, Shadow, and Locke... and Relm followed close behind.

For a ten-year-old girl with too much energy, she did a fairly good job of following them unnoticed. That is, until they were attacked by a large purple octopus named Ultros. When the three began to struggle against their strange opponent, Relm rushed in, unable to remain hidden anymore. Referring to "The Great Ultros" as Ulty, she paints his portrait, showing him that he's just a washed-up old octopus and causing him to flee. Strago finally relents and allows Relm to join them, and they continue on and find the Espers.

Back at Thamasa, the Empire goes back on their promise of peace and instead attacks the Espers, killing them and turning them into magicite, the crystallized form of an Esper's power. This was their true objective all along, and the evil Kefka, cackling with insanity, orders his troops to burn Thamasa to the ground.

When the friends of the travelers arrive, Strago decided to join them in taking down the Empire. Relm, of course, insists on going as well, and won't take no for an answer. And so Strago and Relm join the resistance just as the Emperor, Gestahl, and his right-hand man Kefka use the power of the Espers to rip a huge land mass away from the earth and send it floating into the sky. The Statues of the Warring Triad, the source of all magic, are on the Floating Continent, and if those Statues are moved out of their delicate balance it would send the world into ruin.

Although they manage to reach the Statues, the insane Kefka murders Gestahl and moves the Statues out of alignment, causing natural disasters to happen all over the world. A year later, the once green earth is brown and lifeless, the sea and sky now the same unhealthy rust color. Plants barely grow; humans and animals alike struggle to live in a world seemingly devoid of life and hope. Having been separated from her grandfather and her new friends when the Floating Continent crashed, Relm recovers from the devastation by making a living using her art skills.

A year later, Relm had been commissioned by a wealthy noble named Owzer in the town of Jidoor. Known to be a collector of fine paintings, the noble had wanted something unique to call his own, so he sought out Relm's talent. He asked her to paint the image of a beautiful woman he had been smitten by after purchasing a strange stone. The stone turned out to be a piece of magicite, and while Relm set to work painting the Esper, a demon that was lured by the magicite's power possessed the unfinished painting and attacked Relm and Owzer. Thankfully, some of the old members of the resistance were looking for Relm, and they found her just in time to fight off the demon. Happy to see her friends again, Relm joined back up with them, promising to return and finish the painting once they had defeated Kefka.

Not long after Relm had been traveling with the group again, they happened upon a large tower. The locals referred to it as the Cult of Kefka Tower, saying that it was inhabited by people that had totally given up hope and now worshiped Kefka mindlessly. Deciding to investigate, the party goes to the tower, and they're all amazed to find Strago as one of the cult members! No one but Relm can get through to him, and when she calls him a stubborn old bag of bones, it snaps him right out of his depression. Overjoyed at seeing his granddaughter alive after all, he happily joins the fight against Kefka once again.

After some time, they manage to gather all of their old companions, as well as two new ones. They fly to Kefka's tower to take the madman down once and for all, but before she can join in the fight, Relm finds herself in Mayfield.

Personality: Relm is a spunky little firecracker, much to her grandfather Strago's amusement and frustration. She has always been full of life, with a sharp wit and tongue to match. She speaks her mind, unafraid of anyone else's reactions to her attitude.

She has a bit of a temper, but it's usually brought on by someone calling her a kid or looking down on her because of her age. She may be young, but she doesn't like being treated like a child, and nothing gets her fired up faster than someone treating her as such. That being said, she still understands that sometimes she gets in over her head, and even though she'd never admit it, she's grateful to those adults she knows and trusts when they help her out of those situations. She also doesn't hesitate to use the "but I'm just a little girl!" line to get out of trouble and to make others feel guilty for bullying her, as it often seems to work quite well and she's quickly picked up on this.

She has all kinds of colorful names for the people she talks to, her grandfather being the one that gets the worst of it. From "fuddy-duddy" to "dried up old bag of bones", Relm never holds back when she's talking to Strago. Instead of chastising her, though, he just accepts these insults as they're really meant to be - a sign of Relm's affection for him. For all of her jabs and complaints about her grandfather, he is clearly the most important person in Relm's life, and she loves him dearly - even if she has strange ways of showing it. Indeed, those that Relm is closest to often get the worst of her teasing and attitude, especially if they happen to be male. She is often noticeably more forgiving toward females, especially mothering types; her longing for the mother she never knew is no doubt the cause for this.

Despite having no real knowledge of romance and attraction, she is quick to assume that anyone displaying any sort of romantic affection is a pervert. Watching people get flustered over such accusations only amuses her and makes her teasing worse, and she has a tendency to say some very racy and questionable things, implying actions she doesn't fully understand herself.

Relm also loves dogs, and they seem to love her back. Or perhaps Interceptor is a special case? Regardless, Relm takes an immediate liking to the huge and seemingly vicious dog, and in response he acts quite like the overgrown puppy around her, much to her delight. She shows no fear toward him, even though he is considerably larger than the small 10-year-old girl, and their bond is instant - though this is, unbeknownst to her, rooted in her past.

Not surprisingly, Relm loves to paint and draw, and she's very talented. Even when she isn't using her magic to bring her drawings to life, her artistic ability is impressive, and she takes great pride in her work. For one so young, she has great passion for art, and it shows in all of her creations. She often boasts that she's the greatest artist that has ever lived, and in a way that just might be true - no one else in her world seems to have the power of Pictomancy that she does, and her talent is indeed impressive, causing even the critical and snobbish Owzer to take notice and commission her for a painting to add to his huge collection.
